«Bitácora del Oficial de Inteligencia, Fecha Estelar 6969: Fuimos recibidos en una sala cavernosa después de que una fuerte tormenta obligara a nuestro transbordador a aterrizar en un planeta desconocido de clase H. Los habitantes eran vibrantes, extraños, con la piel como telas de gasa centelleando en el tenue resplandor carmesí. Susurraban, se tocaban, se besaban y, de vez en cuando, se levantaban para bailar y buscar encuentros sin palabras en la pista. ««Cuando pienso en el significado de «hogar», lo imagino como mi santuario, un espacio lleno de afecto, compasión, aceptación y cuidado. Es el lugar que acoge mi cuerpo y mi esencia tal como son, permitiéndome expandirme y crecer creativamente, sin límites. Es donde puedo expresar las muchas voces que hay dentro de mí, cada una de las cuales suena diferente según mi estado de ánimo.
Cuando pienso en «música», la veo como una herramienta de exploración personal que comparto con el resto del mundo. Es fluida, dinámica, liberadora y fortalecedora. A través de ella, reconozco los tonos de las realidades que me rodean, así como los que me definen. La música siempre está evolucionando, me ayuda a comprender mis orígenes y procesos de transformación. Me permite crear experiencias compartidas que conmueven a la gente y refuerzan los lazos que me rodean.
Cuando toco «House» estoy expresando todos los aspectos de mi experiencia humana: la diversidad, las diferencias, la alegría, la lucha, el caos, la incertidumbre, la unidad y la paz. «Esta mezcla pretende ser una gestalt de sonidos tomados del techno y el electro, con un fondo de bassy house, sobre todo porque me distraigo y no siempre puedo concentrarme, ¡lo que espero que os mantenga interesados! Si bien espero que la mezcla sea capaz de valerse por sí misma y contar su propia historia, te adelanto, a ti – el oyente – que en una nota más personal, dentro de esta mezcla existen pistas con las que he luchado para averiguar cómo mezclar, así como pistas con las que he gritado y llorado, algunas en pistas de baile y otras en privado. Mi objetivo es que el oyente deje espacio para el sonido, a veces enfrentado, de melodías exuberantes y arrebatos ásperos. «Este set es una selección de temas que realmente me han estado resonando últimamente, incluyendo algunos vinilos que aprecio y que no he tocado tan a menudo como debería. Quería crear una mezcla con emociones profundas e introspección, empezando con un poco de house italiano atmosférico y flotando brevemente hacia el house progresivo, antes de volverse más emotivo y atrevido. Al final, el conjunto estaba muy arraigado en los 90, con algunos temas que aportaban modernidad, aunque seguían siendo nostálgicos y descarados. Las voces de los temas se centran en los sentimientos, las necesidades y la autodeterminación, por eso también quise orientar la mezcla hacia el empoderamiento. Otra forma en la que quería que me empoderara a mí y a otras FLINTA es incluyendo a increíbles vocalistas y productoras femeninas, como Crystal Waters, Kim English, Dina Carroll, Vicky Martin y Ladymonix. «This set is a selection of tracks that have really been resonating with me lately, including some vinyl that I cherish and haven’t played out as often as I should. I wanted to create a mix with deep emotions and introspection, starting with some atmospheric Italian house and floating briefly toward progressive house, before getting more emotive and bold. The set ended up being quite deeply rooted in the 90s, with a few tracks bringing in modernity, though still nostalgic and cheeky. The vocals from the tracks focus on feelings, needs, and self-determination, which is why I also wanted to steer the mix toward empowerment. Another way I wanted to make it empowering for myself and other FLINTA is by including incredible femme vocalists and producers, such as Crystal Waters, Kim English, Dina Carroll, Vicky Martin, and Ladymonix. Vocals are vital to the culture, and I hope all FLINTA contributors get the recognition they deserve in this scene!
House music is so powerful because it can evoke such a wide range of emotions in everyone, moving us in different ways and giving us space to express ourselves and connect with our feelings. It can be introspective, romantic, bold, sexy, uplifting and more.This mix, while just embodying parts of house music’s emotional spectrum, is a reflection of tracks that I’ve connected with, that give me strength, and of course, make me dance!»

«De repente sola en la casa me veo “sacando unos pasos” al escuchar house, como si el cuerpo se moviera sólo. Después, en la pista de baile veo a mis amistades en la misma; uno haciendo un movimiento diferente con la cabeza, otra concentrada en los pies, otra expresándose con los brazos y manos, otre con los ojitos cerrados sintiendo las melodías, otros besándose en la esquina. Para mí es un sentimiento musical profundo y sensual, que te invita a bailar sin vergüenza, sabiendo que estás en comunidad celebrando la vida a pesar de lo difícil que puede ser.
Esta mezcla define el House para mí porque es una compilación de mis temas favoritos; los siento muy profundamente, no me cansan nunca, me dan ganas de bailar siempre y me dan alegría. Además, son creaciones de productores que admiro muchísimo.»

«Suddenly, alone in the house, I see myself “taking a few steps” while listening to house music, as if my body was moving by itself. Later, on the dance floor I see my friends on the same dance floor; one making a different movement with his head, another concentrating on his feet, another expressing himself with his arms and hands, another with his eyes closed feeling the melodies, others kissing in the corner. «Mi primer contacto con la música House fue cogiendo y reproduciendo al azar una de las cintas de casete ilegales de mi hermana (¡así compartíamos música en los 90!). Debió de ser alrededor de 1998, cuando yo tenía unos 11 o 12 años. La cinta decía «Daft Punk – Homework» y yo no tenía ni idea de lo que era, pero me impactó al instante. Un par de años más tarde, cuando conseguí mi primer sueldo en mi primer trabajo, me lo gasté en un par de giradiscos y una mesa de mezclas de segunda mano para aprender a pinchar. Los primeros años de la década de 2000 fueron un revival del electro, el electroclash, la idolatría de la EBM y un fetiche por la estética de los 80. Así que eso era lo que yo utilizaba. Así que eso es lo que pinchaba. No mucha música house en realidad… Me hace mucha gracia que hoy en día mis sesiones de DJ estén tan impregnadas de la misma fuerte influencia del Chicago House de los 90 que tenía «Homework», especialmente desde que pasé tantos años sin pinchar nada de música house. Para este mix quise reunir muchos discos house que me encantan en un set Vinyl Only, la mayoría de ellos de mediados de los 90, muchos clásicos, algunos de ellos muy en el paraguas Chicago House, pero también algunos otros que caen en categorías como HI-NRG, Acid, Proto-House, Electro y Techno de los 90. Espero que os guste.»

«My first contact with House music was by randomly grabbing and playing one of my sister’s illegal cassette tapes (that’s how we shared music in the 90’s!). It must have been around 1998, when I was about 11 or 12. The cassette said «Daft Punk – Homework» and I had no idea what that was, but it blew me away instantly. Cut 2 to a couple of years later, when I got my first salary from my first job ever, which I spent on a pair of second-hand turntables and mixer to learn how to dj. The early 2000s were all about electro revival, electroclash, EBM idolatry and a fetish for the 80s aesthetics. So that’s what I used to play. Not much house music really… It’s so funny to me that today my Dj sets are so much infused with that same strong 90’s Chicago House influence that «Homework» had, specially since I spent soooo many years playing no house music at all. For this mix I wanted to put together many house records that I love in a Vinyl Only set, most of them are mid 90s, many classics, some of them very much in the Chicago House umbrella, but also some others falling in categories like HI-NRG, Acid, Proto-House, Electro and 90s Techno. I hope you like it!»

También es un homenaje a los orígenes queer y BIPOC del género de la música House y a los muchos artistas cuya influencia se extiende a lo largo de generaciones. La música house tiene el poder de hacer que la gente se sienta libre, feroz, sexy o conmovedora. Se trata de embarcarse en un viaje y dejarse perder en él. Se trata de liberarse de todas las cargas aunque sólo sea por el breve tiempo que se pasa en la pista de baile.
