#062 Music 4 Healing a Heartbreak

«La música House llegó a mi vida cuando estaba pasando por una mala racha al final de mi adolescencia, así que pensé en hacer una mixtape de temas que me habría encantado escuchar entonces. Comienza a finales de los 80 con un puñado de temas «Proto-House» que podría imaginarme escuchando en el Paradise Garage (NY) & Warehouse (Chicago) para después adentrarme en el sonido House de los 90. Si alguna vez me has oído pinchar en una función, te habrás dado cuenta de que considero la música House como un gran lienzo sonoro para expresar mis sentimientos y por eso recurro a las voces tanto como puedo. Hay tantas variedades y sabores diferentes de House que, en parte, esa es la razón por la que parece que nunca me aburro de él. Muchos de los géneros que me inspiran pueden integrarse en una sesión de House, por ejemplo Soul, Gospel, Disco, Jazz, Reggae, Latin y muchos más.

La angustia que inspiró esto no fue exactamente una angustia romántica, sino más bien una angustia por la situación actual del mundo (en alemán hay una gran palabra llamada «weltschmerz» que yo describiría como algo parecido a «dolor del mundo», un sentimiento que parece haber estado conmigo desde los 15 años). Espero que esta mezcla te ayude a sentarte con tu tristeza y a recordar que hay que tener esperanza. He procesado muchas cosas en mi vida con la música House sonando, ya sea en casa o en la pista de baile con mi comunidad y siempre encuentro interesante cuando la gente me dice algo como «oh, no me gusta la música House». No la critiques hasta que la pruebes, ¿eh? »

«La música house siempre me ha parecido una manifestación de alegría profunda y resplandeciente y de ser notablemente humane -a veces en marcado contraste con la música rave, más turbia y sombría, envuelta en niebla y luces estroboscópicas- tal vez el equivalente en la pista de baile de una risa burbujeante donde otra música de baile susurra una oración. Es esta cualidad de calidez que es tan emocionante y reconfortante, y que permite a todes disfrutar y celebrar la vida juntes, lo que hace que la música house sea familiar y unificadora. Quería tomar esta energía y sensibilidad pero hacerla más onírica, vaporosa, atmosférica y decorada con un poco de sentimentalismo centelleante; de ahí pads más oníricos, sintetizadores emotivos, arpegios chispeantes, algunas inclinaciones y referencias adyacentes al trance. Especialmente a medida que cambian las estaciones y nos encontramos con días más largos, una luz más brillante y el comienzo de la floración, pensé en conjurar una neblina primaveral para despertar de los vientos fríos a nuevos y sorprendentes rayos de sol: música para esforzarse en sonreír con una compañía pensativa y jubilosa.»

« Estoy muy contento de ser invitado a este podcast.
Me encanta poder compartir una pincelada de todo lo que significa la música house para mi a través de este mix y que coincide mucho con la idea del podcast House Of Others. Es difícil agregar más a todo lo que se ha dicho sobre el house en esta misma plataforma, así que sólo hablaré un poco de la música que seleccioné esta vez. Suenan muchos clásicos (para mi al menos) mucha música de hace 30 años o más, pero también bastantes tracks del año pasado. Me gustan los contrastes que se dan en la música house y que conviven en una pista de baile. Puede ser música divertida, juguetona y pop. Pero también experimental, acid y jacking. Puede ser sofisticada y sensual , pero también cruda y callejera. Robótica, pero también funky y llena de referencias a la música disco .Y algo de eso quería rescatar en mi mix. Ese sentimiento underground y latino. Como siempre ha sido el house para mi. Espero que lo disfruten!!🙂»

OTHERS’ DANCE ESCAPE es una nueva propuesta de Others to the Front, desde la crítica y la reflexión sobre el acceso al ocio, para disfrutar de la música en formatos y lugares otros, donde proporcionar nuevas formas de divertirnos y pasarlo bien en comunidad: un espacio FLINTA donde perdernos y ser salvajes.

Nuestra comunidad es amplia y nuestra intención es incluir a cualquier criatura que no se sienta identificada con el ambiente del club, sus horarios y los tiempos de producción de la noche. 

Más allá de escaparnos de la realidad, sentimos necesario tener espacios donde todas las identidades nos sintamos seguras y cómodas, escapando así de las imposiciones de la cisheteronorma y el conformismo dictado por hombres blancos cishetero con el que no nos sentimos identificadxs.

Reivindicamos la diversidad de lugares de baile y escucha de música frente a la gentrificación y turistificación, tejiendo redes en los barrios que conforman la vida en la ciudad, porque la fiesta y los barrios son para quienes los habitan.

En el corazón de nuestra revolución de baile se encuentra el deseo de crear un ambiente en el que celebrarnos, un espacio donde el yo se convierta en nosotrxs, ¡desdibujando el género, subiendo el volumen y rompiéndolo todo!

Invitamos a nuestra preciosa comunidad que amamos a escaparnos a una nueva pista de baile, a ritmo de House, donde poder charlar, bailar y conocernos y donde seguir conspirando alianzas bellas de ternura radical.

«This mix is an example of both the timelessness and wide range that exists within dance music. Not only do these tracks span from the late 80s to just a few months ago, the sound varies across the dance music spectrum. For me many of these sounds are what have drawn me to the dance floor over the years, helping to combat both my social anxiety and gender dysphoria; they are what have reminded me many times that being Queer and loving the things you love puts you in community with so many other like minded radical folks. My hope for whoever listens is that you can resonate with my love for these tracks, the artists that created them!»

«Esta mezcla es un ejemplo tanto de la atemporalidad como de la amplia gama que existe dentro de la música de baile. Estas canciones no sólo abarcan desde finales de los 80 hasta hace sólo unos meses, sino que el sonido varía en todo el espectro de la música de baile. Para mí, muchos de estos sonidos son los que me han atraído a la pista de baile a lo largo de los años, ayudándome a combatir tanto mi ansiedad social como mi disforia de género; son los que me han recordado muchas veces que ser Queer y amar las cosas que amas te pone en comunidad con tantas otras personas radicales de ideas afines. #053 House is a Spiritual Feeling

«For me, House music is a 44-year-old genre of music that originated and popularized in the black gay LGBTQ+ nightclub spaces of New York, Chicago, and Detroit that spilled on to influence and inspire the world. House music is a living breathing relic that tells its own story in the hits, the lyrics, the parties, and our legends and legacies in local and worldwide scenes.
House music is a mode of being, a ritualistic euphoria we gather for, a space of praise, connection, and unadulterated feeling, healing and dancing- kind of like church should be, a dance floor where there is room for someone like you.
The mix I made explores a spiritual realm of House music with influences of Jazz, Disco, Gospel, and African and Latin Diasporic sounds.
Its infectious rhythms take you into a certain sentimentality. This is an ancestral conversation twisting into different messages of hope and resilience. The heart, soul, and mind are wrestling with big themes in these transitions. Though breaking through at times to find lightness, this one is meant to go deep. I love that House Music can hold all the multitudes and complexities of being human.»

«Para mí, la música House es un género musical de 44 años que se originó y popularizó en los locales nocturnos de homosexuales negros LGBTQ+ de Nueva York, Chicago y Detroit, y que ha influido e inspirado al mundo entero. La música house es una reliquia viviente que cuenta su propia historia en los éxitos, las letras, las fiestas y nuestras leyendas y legados en escenas locales y mundiales.
La música house es un modo de ser, una euforia ritualista para la que nos reunimos, un espacio de alabanza, conexión y sentimiento sin adulterar, de curación y baile, como debería ser la iglesia, una pista de baile donde hay sitio para alguien como tú.
La mezcla que he hecho explora el reino espiritual de la música house con influencias de jazz, disco, gospel y sonidos de la diáspora africana y latina.
Sus ritmos contagiosos te transportan a un cierto sentimentalismo. Se trata de una conversación ancestral que se retuerce en diferentes mensajes de esperanza y resistencia. El corazón, el alma y la mente luchan con grandes temas en estas transiciones. Aunque a veces se abre paso para encontrar ligereza, este tema está destinado a profundizar. Me encanta que la música house pueda contener todas las multitudes y complejidades del ser humano.»
