OTHERS’ DANCE ESCAPE

OTHERS’ DANCE ESCAPE es una nueva propuesta de Others to the Front, desde la crítica y la reflexión sobre el acceso al ocio, para disfrutar de la música en formatos y lugares otros, donde proporcionar nuevas formas de divertirnos y pasarlo bien en comunidad: un espacio FLINTA donde perdernos y ser salvajes.

Nuestra comunidad es amplia y nuestra intención es incluir a cualquier criatura que no se sienta identificada con el ambiente del club, sus horarios y los tiempos de producción de la noche. 

Más allá de escaparnos de la realidad, sentimos necesario tener espacios donde todas las identidades nos sintamos seguras y cómodas, escapando así de las imposiciones de la cisheteronorma y el conformismo dictado por hombres blancos cishetero con el que no nos sentimos identificadxs.

Reivindicamos la diversidad de lugares de baile y escucha de música frente a la gentrificación y turistificación, tejiendo redes en los barrios que conforman la vida en la ciudad, porque la fiesta y los barrios son para quienes los habitan.

En el corazón de nuestra revolución de baile se encuentra el deseo de crear un ambiente en el que celebrarnos, un espacio donde el yo se convierta en nosotrxs, ¡desdibujando el género, subiendo el volumen y rompiéndolo todo!

Invitamos a nuestra preciosa comunidad que amamos a escaparnos a una nueva pista de baile, a ritmo de House, donde poder charlar, bailar y conocernos y donde seguir conspirando alianzas bellas de ternura radical.

«I have rummaged through the records/labels that have influenced me the most, trying to create a journey that was not at all academic and to be enjoyed with eyes closed and hi-hats wide-open. House changed my life LITERALLY. In my opinion the dance floor is the greatest social catalyst that has ever existed: it makes us all equal. At least that’s how we experienced it in my generation; a bunch of people united by dancing, freeing themselves from their complexes and embracing difference without rules or tutelage. It may sound exaggerated with distance, but I’ve seen what happened on a dancefloor when House Nation played and that was for real. In the session I have tried to gather records from all the places that made the last half of the 90’s an explosion that synthesized the groove of black music with the European electronic tradition and Jamaican dub. From the bubbling and hypnotic house of the Glasgow scene represented by DJ Q, to the London elegance of Nigel Hayes, the West Coast psychedelia of Rasoul, the Italian hooliganism, the French touch, the depth of Chicago, the avant-garde of Detroit, the German minimalism, the cheekiness of Dutch productions… The final track is my favorite from Herbert’s Bodily Functions, probably the pinnacle of synthetic music of that era. They’re not all there, but they’re all there. »

«He rebuscado entre los discos/sellos que más me han influido, procurando crear un viaje que no fuese en absoluto académico y que se disfrute con los ojos cerrados y los charles bien abiertos. A mí el House me cambió la vida LITERAL. En mi opinión la pista de baile es el mayor catalizador social que ha existido: nos hace a todos iguales. Al menos así lo vivimos en mi generación; un montón de gente unida por el baile, liberándose de sus complejos y abrazando la diferencia sin normas ni tutelas. Puede que con la distancia suene exagerado, pero yo he visto lo que pasaba en una pista al sonar el House Nation y eso era de verdad. En la sesión he procurado reunir discos de todos los lugares que hicieron de la última mitad de los 90 una explosión que sintetizó el groove de la música negra con la tradición electrónica europea y el dub jamaicano. Desde el house burbujeante e hipnótico de la escena de Glasgow representada por DJ Q, a la elegancia londinense de Nigel Hayes, la psicodelia facturada en la costa oeste norteamericana de Rasoul, el gamberrismo italiano, el toque francés, la profundidad de Chicago, la vanguardia de Detroit, el minimalismo alemán, el descaro de las producciones holandesas… El tema final es mi favorito del Bodily Functions de Herbert, probablemente la cúspide de la música sintética de aquella época. No están todos lo que son, pero sí que son todos los que están.»

«This set made of many variations of house music and some experimental tracks which reflects my feelings of adapting to a new place, to new people and a new version of myself. Giving myself the freedom to experiment, create and venture to new places. This is what house means to me, experimentation, freedom and transformation. For me the dancefloor is the place where you should be able to get in touch with your inner hedonism and happiness, and express those feelings with your movement and unspoken connection to others around you. At that moment we are all the same, at night all cats are grey.»

«Este conjunto, compuesto por muchas variaciones de música house y algunos temas experimentales, refleja mis sentimientos de adaptación a un nuevo lugar, a nuevas personas y a una nueva versión de mí mismo. Darme la libertad de experimentar, crear y aventurarme en nuevos lugares. Esto es lo que el house significa para mí, experimentación, libertad y transformación. Para mí, la pista de baile es el lugar en el que deberías poder entrar en contacto con tu hedonismo y felicidad interiores, y expresar esos sentimientos con tu movimiento y tu conexión tácita con los que te rodean. En ese momento todos somos iguales, por la noche todos los gatos son pardos.»

 «5 años hace que empecé a pinchar y ahora no quiero imaginar mi vida sin un mixer entre las manos. El House tardó un poco más en llegar y ahora no quiero imaginar mi vida sin esta cadencia que ilumina cada momento de oscuridad.

Desde sus inicios, el House contiene la fuerza de una comunidad en pie de lucha, una comunidad cansada de esconderse, una alianza sólida entre la otredad. El House es un grito optimista de ¡BASTA YA! que recuerda quiénes somos y abre imaginarios de futuros posibles. Esa es la misión de House of Others, acercar y ampliar futuribles.

Este mix investiga los ritmos del House más underground en combinación con lo más pop, como RuPaul o Madonna. Es una mezcla de temas que me han movido este verano, old skool y new skool en servicio de ritmos que nos desplazan, que nos cuestionan, que nos convierten en una sola materia, al menos por unos instantes, más fuerte que cualquier forma dada.

Espero que os llegue la energía que había la mañana que grabé este mix, junto a un cuerpo de baile de criaturas maravillosas que te recuerdan quién eres, y eso es lo que tienen en común con la música House. El House es quien te acompaña y apoya en cada momento. El House no juzga y no espera nada, solo se deja bailar, y ahora no quiero imaginar mi vida sin la comunidad que el House me ha regalado.

In The Mood For Love es un grito de amor dedicado a dos grandes amigues que están pasando un momento de duelo para que se dejen bailar.

5 years since I started DJing and now I don’t want to imagine my life without a mixer in my hands.

House took a little longer to arrive and now I don’t want to imagine my life without this groove that illuminates every moment of darkness.

From its beginnings, House has contained the strength of a community in struggle, a community tired of hiding, a solid alliance between otherness’. House is an optimistic cry of ENOUGH! that reminds us of who we are and opens up imaginaries of possible futures. That is the mission of House of Others, to bring us closer and expand potentialities.

This mix investigates the rhythms of the most underground House in combination with the most pop, like RuPaul or Madonna. It’s a mix of themes that moved me this summer, old skool and new skool coming together in rhythms that displace us, that question us, that turn us into a single matter, at least for a few moments, stronger than any given form.

I hope you get the energy of that morning when I recorded this mix, together with a corps de ballet of marvelous creatures that remind you of who you are, and that’s what they have in common with House music. House is the one who accompanies and supports you in every moment. House doesn’t judge and doesn’t expect anything, it just lets you dance, and now I don’t want to imagine my life without the community that House has given me.

In The Mood 4 Love is a cry of love dedicated to two great friends who are going through a time of mourning, so they can let themselves go and dance.

Dancing w/ Others 06/07/2023

El jueves 6 de julio volvemos a llenar las pistas de baile de Siroco presentando la nueva escena de CDMX.

Ciudad de México es uno de los lugares donde la electrónica de baile underground se está renovando desde la óptica de la nueva cultura urbana latina. Y eso mismo hace Kodemul con sus tocadas.

House, UK Garage, Bass, Breaks en un continuo de baile y ritmo para encender la pista.

Nos visita, por primera vez en Madrid y en su primer tour por Europa, Kodemul promotor de las raves queer PorDetroit que se desarrollan entre CDMX y Los Angeles. Kodemul ha desarrollado un universo propio, inequívocamente mexicano, a partir del sonido del techno y el house de Detroit más puros.

El OPEN DECKS tendrá lugar en la sala lounge de Siroco. afrohouse / breaks / breakcore / deep / experimental / groove / hardcore / house / latina / MENTAL / Reggaetón / techno / trance serán los beats que podréis encontrar en este elenco que vuelve a poner a la otredad al frente!

Porque la fiesta también puede ser un laboratorio donde aprender y compartir y nos gusta la idea de que sea con vosotres.

Todes somos DJs, todes bailamos. En nuestras fiestas la distancia entre el dancefloor y la cabina es mínima. Ser Dj es ser interprete de las emociones y la vibración del dancefloor. Las sesiones más maravillosas son momentos de comunicación perfecta entre el dancefloor y la cabina. El hecho de que muchos hayan proyectado su masculinidad competitiva y jerárquica sobre el mundo de la música electrónica no nos hace olvidar los principios profundos de dónde venimos:
En la pista y en la cabina nadie es más que nadie.

«Como la música House en sus orígenes, donde cada club contaba con su propia colección de discos que le hacían único, he querido rendir culto al género haciendo un repaso a todos esos tracks (incluidos aquellos propios por ver la luz) que me han acompañado y han sido banda sonora de estos últimos años de pandemia, donde el hogar (our house) se convirtió en nuestro lugar más seguro, sanador y sagrado (y muy a nuestro pesar un derecho vulnerado). Salud, paz y amor!»

«This mix was recorded live at Hole in Siroco Club in december 2022.
It tries to capture the classic sound of US house music,
with some touches from the other side of the atlantic.
Old and new cuts mix toghether, all time favourite producers from Chicago, New York and Detroit
are well represented here along with some less known producers and tracks.
The idea is to try to get to the core of house, where queer, black and latino influences
merge to create a sense of freedom in the dancefloor.
Beyond the nu skool and the old skool there is the real school,
and there is where this mix aims to get.
