No son tiempos maravillosos, la verdad. House of Others ha sido el proyecto que me ha mantenido vivo y con ganas de seguir creando comunidad alrededor de la música House. Y ahora vivo en Berlín.

#086 Emotion, Energy and Empowerment

«Este set es una selección de temas que realmente me han estado resonando últimamente, incluyendo algunos vinilos que aprecio y que no he tocado tan a menudo como debería. Quería crear una mezcla con emociones profundas e introspección, empezando con un poco de house italiano atmosférico y flotando brevemente hacia el house progresivo, antes de volverse más emotivo y atrevido. Al final, el conjunto estaba muy arraigado en los 90, con algunos temas que aportaban modernidad, aunque seguían siendo nostálgicos y descarados. Las voces de los temas se centran en los sentimientos, las necesidades y la autodeterminación, por eso también quise orientar la mezcla hacia el empoderamiento. Otra forma en la que quería que me empoderara a mí y a otras FLINTA es incluyendo a increíbles vocalistas y productoras femeninas, como Crystal Waters, Kim English, Dina Carroll, Vicky Martin y Ladymonix. Las voces son vitales para la cultura, ¡y espero que todas las colaboradoras de FLINTA obtengan el reconocimiento que merecen en esta escena!
La música house es tan poderosa porque puede evocar una amplia gama de emociones en todo el mundo, conmovernos de diferentes maneras y darnos espacio para expresarnos y conectar con nuestros sentimientos. Puede ser introspectiva, romántica, atrevida, sexy, edificante y mucho más. Esta mezcla, aunque sólo encarna partes del espectro emocional de la música house, es un reflejo de temas con los que he conectado, que me dan fuerza y, por supuesto, ¡me hacen bailar!»

«This set is a selection of tracks that have really been resonating with me lately, including some vinyl that I cherish and haven’t played out as often as I should. I wanted to create a mix with deep emotions and introspection, starting with some atmospheric Italian house and floating briefly toward progressive house, before getting more emotive and bold. The set ended up being quite deeply rooted in the 90s, with a few tracks bringing in modernity, though still nostalgic and cheeky. The vocals from the tracks focus on feelings, needs, and self-determination, which is why I also wanted to steer the mix toward empowerment. Another way I wanted to make it empowering for myself and other FLINTA is by including incredible femme vocalists and producers, such as Crystal Waters, Kim English, Dina Carroll, Vicky Martin, and Ladymonix. Vocals are vital to the culture, and I hope all FLINTA contributors get the recognition they deserve in this scene!
House music is so powerful because it can evoke such a wide range of emotions in everyone, moving us in different ways and giving us space to express ourselves and connect with our feelings. It can be introspective, romantic, bold, sexy, uplifting and more.This mix, while just embodying parts of house music’s emotional spectrum, is a reflection of tracks that I’ve connected with, that give me strength, and of course, make me dance!»

#083 Vinyl Only Tour

«Mi primer contacto con la música House fue cogiendo y reproduciendo al azar una de las cintas de casete ilegales de mi hermana (¡así compartíamos música en los 90!). Debió de ser alrededor de 1998, cuando yo tenía unos 11 o 12 años. La cinta decía «Daft Punk – Homework» y yo no tenía ni idea de lo que era, pero me impactó al instante. Un par de años más tarde, cuando conseguí mi primer sueldo en mi primer trabajo, me lo gasté en un par de giradiscos y una mesa de mezclas de segunda mano para aprender a pinchar. Los primeros años de la década de 2000 fueron un revival del electro, el electroclash, la idolatría de la EBM y un fetiche por la estética de los 80. Así que eso era lo que yo utilizaba. Así que eso es lo que pinchaba. No mucha música house en realidad… Me hace mucha gracia que hoy en día mis sesiones de DJ estén tan impregnadas de la misma fuerte influencia del Chicago House de los 90 que tenía «Homework», especialmente desde que pasé tantos años sin pinchar nada de música house. Para este mix quise reunir muchos discos house que me encantan en un set Vinyl Only, la mayoría de ellos de mediados de los 90, muchos clásicos, algunos de ellos muy en el paraguas Chicago House, pero también algunos otros que caen en categorías como HI-NRG, Acid, Proto-House, Electro y Techno de los 90. Espero que os guste.»

«My first contact with House music was by randomly grabbing and playing one of my sister’s illegal cassette tapes (that’s how we shared music in the 90’s!). It must have been around 1998, when I was about 11 or 12. The cassette said «Daft Punk – Homework» and I had no idea what that was, but it blew me away instantly. Cut 2 to a couple of years later, when I got my first salary from my first job ever, which I spent on a pair of second-hand turntables and mixer to learn how to dj. The early 2000s were all about electro revival, electroclash, EBM idolatry and a fetish for the 80s aesthetics. So that’s what I used to play. Not much house music really… It’s so funny to me that today my Dj sets are so much infused with that same strong 90’s Chicago House influence that «Homework» had, specially since I spent soooo many years playing no house music at all. For this mix I wanted to put together many house records that I love in a Vinyl Only set, most of them are mid 90s, many classics, some of them very much in the Chicago House umbrella, but also some others falling in categories like HI-NRG, Acid, Proto-House, Electro and 90s Techno. I hope you like it!»
